This presentation is about the journey of finding soul through art and stonework after severe trauma. There will be numerous images of the completed and ongoing stonework, and of the process of building a large sunken stone spiral labyrinth. The material will be anchored to the theory and work of C.G. Jung, with illustrated quotations and context.

This talk will be a continuation of the material presented to the C.G. Jung Club of Orange County in April 2021 (A Story of Heart, Soul and Stones - video link.)

Learning objectives:

  • Explain the depth psychological symbolism of stones.

  • Explain the depth psychological symbolism of spirals.

  • Explain the depth psychological symbolism of labyrinths.

Stephen Parker, PhD, is a Jungian psychologist from Fairbanks, Alaska. He has worked for forty years throughout Alaska and presented on numerous Jungian topics during that time.  He has maintained the website www.jungcurrents.com for many years.

Heart issues that began twenty years ago led him to paint and write Heart Attack and Soul (available from Amazon), which became the basis of several solo art shows. He has also been working with stone for two decades and has built a large Stone Sanctuary with numerous stone features. Most recently, he has been working on a large sunken stone spiral labyrinth, a five-year project.

His work was featured in the journal Psychological Perspectives and displayed at Commonweal in Bolinas, California. He lives in a birch forest in the hills of Fairbanks, Alaska, with his partner (Kornelia Grabinska, PhD, a Jungian analyst) and next to his two grown children, grandchild, three family dogs, the Stone Sanctuary and the Labyrinth.
