CANCELLED:

We are extremely sorry to have to cancel this conference. Michael Meade lives in the Seattle area, not far from Kirkland, the current epicenter of coronavirus cases in the US. Out of caution for all involved, Michael has made the difficult decision to postpone all travel and event plans through June. This decision follows the recommendations from King County Public Health to limit unnecessary travel by residents of the affected area.  We hope to reschedule the workshop to a time when everyone can gather with a feeling of freedom and safety. Michael wishes everyone protection, well-being and all blessings.

Awakening the Soul:

A Deep Response to a Troubled World

Presented by
Michael Meade, DHL

Saturday, March 28, 2020, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

[NOTE:  This program is on a Saturday, not Sunday]

We live in a time of overwhelming changes and seemingly impossible tasks when it comes to both nature and culture. Yet this is not the end of time, but a break in the rhythm of history that also creates openings to the realm of great imagination and the possibility of reconnecting to the Soul of the World.

The storms and tragedies of contemporary life can be seen as a spiritual crisis where we must find a greater sense of self and soul or become more subject to increasing feelings of anxiety and helplessness. We are either on the way to a genuine transformation of life or on the road to greater tragedy.

What we learn from mythic stories and depth psychology is how an awakening of human nature can make us each a part of healing culture while helping to restore the vitality and abundance of the earth. No matter what threats and disasters occur at the surface of life, the underlying soul remains an endless resource and vital source of change and renewal.  Changes at the level of the individual soul can generate the collective energy needed to change the conditions of the world.

Learning objectives:

  • Give examples of mythic stories that can help create a healing culture in individuals, the larger society, and even the earth.

  • Identify changes individuals can make that would contribute to generating the collective energy needed to change the conditions of the world.

  • Describe how overwhelmingly difficult times can create openings to the realm of great imagination and the possibility of reconnecting to the underlying soul.

Michael Meade, DHL, is a renowned storyteller, author, and scholar of mythology, anthropology, and psychology. He combines hypnotic storytelling, street-savvy perceptiveness, and spellbinding interpretations of ancient myths with a deep knowledge of cross-cultural rituals. He has an unusual ability to distill and synthesize these disciplines, tapping into ancestral sources of wisdom and connecting them to the stories we are living today.

He is the author of Awakening the Soul; The Genius Myth; Fate and Destiny: The Two Agreements of The Soul; Why the World Doesn't End; The Water of Life: Initiation and the Tempering of the Soul; and editor, with James Hillman and Robert Bly, of The Rag and Bone Shop of the Heart. Meade is the founder of Mosaic Multicultural Foundation, a nonprofit network of artists, activists, and community builders that encourages greater understanding between diverse peoples.
